Soweto is internationally recognised as a home for all South Africans, African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma said on Saturday.

“I’m really happy to celebrate my birthday in Soweto. It was indeed in style,” he said.

Zuma arrived just after 1pm at South African Football Association Stadium in Klipspruit, Soweto, where community radio station Jozi FM held a music event to celebrate his birthday.

Zuma was born on April 12 1942 at Inkandla in KwaZulu-Natal.

He was welcomed by an Imbongi (praise singer), who congratulated him for conquering every obstacle in his way to winning the ANC presidency.

Zuma, in turn, said he was humbled to celebrate his birthday “at home”.
