Convicted rapist allegedly molests boy
A convicted rapist was arrested on Monday on suspicion of molesting a seven-year-old boy in KwaThema near Springs, Johannesburg police said.
“A young boy of about seven-years-old reported the matter to his parents this morning [Monday]. The parents then organised the community and went to the man’s house and arrested the 46-year-old suspect,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Ramphora.
It was then discovered that the man—who had been out of jail for three years after being convicted of rape—had allegedly molested four other boys.
“He was well known to the community and he was still under supervision with correctional services,” said Ramphora.
“He offered the boy a R5 coin not to tell anyone about the incident,” he said.
The man would appear in the KwaThema Magistrate’s court on Wednesday on five charges of molestation, police said.
