McBride drunken-driving trial postponed

 PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - Sep 01 2008 11:57

The drunken-driving trial of Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride was provisionally postponed in the Pretoria Regional Court on Monday.

The matter was postponed to September 22 pending the outcome of McBride's Pretoria High Court application to gain access to papers that he said relate to his trial. Judgement in the high court application was earlier reserved to September 11.

McBride was seen chatting outside court with Dr Joseph Morolong Moratioa -- who allegedly defrauded the state by pretending he had examined McBride following his September 2006 car accident.

The doctor also appeared in court on Monday and had his case provisionally postponed.

Former metro police officer Hendrik Degenaar, who allegedly assaulted a witness at the scene of McBride's accident, also had his case postponed to September 22.

McBride would not speak to journalists on the record. -- Sapa
