Santos back on form

Santos returned to form in style with a 3-0 win over Bay United at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night.

Santos were all over the Port Elizabeth side in the opening half, creating several opportunities thanks to the enterprising play of Graham King, Tasleem Paulse, Tyren Arendse and Eleazar Rodgers.

After just nine minutes, David Bright’s men were awarded a penalty when Erwin Isaacs was fouled inside the box. Arendse was the man given the responsibility and he made no mistake with the spot kick.

The hosts continued to dominate and doubled their lead after 25 minutes when Mogogi Gabonamong broke down the wing and crossed to Paulse.

Paulse’s shot hit the bar, but Musa Otieno was on hand to apply the finishing touch from close range.

Having been second best for most of the first half, Bay United lifted their game in the second period, although it was Santos who first came close to scoring when Isaacs hit the upright.

But United fashioned a good chance of their own through Gareth Ncaca, whose free kick was spectacularly saved by Francis Chansa.

The final 10 minutes saw The People’s Team finding their rhythm again, and after Romano Scott sent a header wide, Kenwyn Manuel made no mistake when he nodded Bongi Macala’s cross into the back of the net.—Sapa
