An Equality Court hearing on comments by African National Congress Youth League president Julius Malema was on Friday postponed to July. The court, situated at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court, was to have heard a complaint by the Sonke Gender Justice Network on comments made by Malema in January while addressing students at the Cape Peninsula University. According to the network, he is reported to have said that the woman who accused President Jacob Zuma of rape had a "nice time" with him. It was particularly concerned that he also reportedly said: "When a women [sic] didn't enjoy it, she leaves early in the morning. Those who had a nice time will wait until the sun comes out, request breakfast and ask for taxi money." The network wants Malema to apologise for the comments and to stop "making further comments that undermine women's dignity". The matter was postponed to July 9 and 10 for the defence to consider a formal amendment to the complaint. In 2006, Zuma went on trial charged with the rape of a woman who visited his house. He admitted having sex with her and after a lengthy trial was acquitted. -- Sapa TOPICS IN THIS ARTICLE
