'Aids-curing bed' under investigation

 JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - Nov 20 2009 12:01

A thermal massage bed, said to cure Aids patients after a 40-minute session, is under investigation by the Health Ministry, the Sowetan reported on Friday.

The Ceragem Clinic, where about 20 miracle beds are based, is owned by Morokane Choma, reported the daily.

People queue from as early as 2am to have their 40 minutes on the beds that apparently heal any disease, including HIV/Aids.

As people wait for their turn they are said to be listening to testimonies of those who were "helped" by the bed.

National health spokesperson Fidel Hadebe said there were many people who claimed to be able to cure diseases and warned the public to be careful. "We will send inspectors to the establishment and we will take legal action if we find any fraud," said Hadebe.

Ceragem, a Korean massage bed, is not registered with the South African Bureau of Standards.

Ceragem's manufacturers were banned from making false claims about the bed in Texas in 2005. -- Sapa
