Nersa allows Transnet to raise pipeline tariffs

Nersa has given transport parastatal Transnet the green light to raise its tariffs for users of its fuel pipelines by 6,09%.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has given transport parastatal Transnet the green light to raise its tariffs for users of its fuel pipelines by 6,09%.

If the minister of energy decided to use the pipeline tariff as a proxy for the cost of transporting fuel from Durban to Johannesburg—as had been the case in the past—then the expected petrol price rise would be 0,7 cents per litre, Nersa said in a statement on Friday.

Transnet had initially applied for a 51,3% tariff increase to help it fund its pipeline being built between Johannesburg and Durban, Nersa said.—Sapa
