Thieves lift wallets from Uruguay team hotel

Thieves broke into the Uruguay team hotel and stole $12 000 from two of the squad while the team were playing against France at the World Cup, Uruguay media reported Saturday.

The robbers broke into the rooms of Ernesto Rodriguez and Daniel Marotta at a Cape Town hotel during the match on Friday evening.

Rodriguez was robbed of $4 000 and Marotta was missing $8 000.

After reviewing surveillance camera recordings, South African police believe a member of the Uruguay delegation may have been involved in the theft. – Sapa
