Forlan honoured with Golden Ball award

Uruguay's Diego Forlan received the Golden Ball award as the Player of the Tournament after scoring five goals in seven Soccer World Cup matches.

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan received the Golden Ball award as the Player of the Tournament after scoring five goals in seven matches during the 2010 World Cup.

Uruguay placed fourth after losing 3-2 to Germany in the third-place playoff on Saturday. Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 to lift the title at Soccer City on Sunday night.

Germany’s Thomas Mueller received the Golden Boot award, also having scored five goals in the tournament.

Apart from Forlan, Spain’s David Villa and Wesley Sneijder of the Netherlands also struck five times, but Mueller received the award with three
assists.

Mueller, 20, was also named the Best Young Player. Iker Casillas of Spain received the Golden Glove accolade as the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.—Sapa
