Group: Former Kenyan official derailing ICC probe

A human rights group in Kenya said a former government minister may be trying to derail the ICC's investigation into Kenya's post-election violence.

A government-funded human rights group in Kenya said on Friday a former government minister may be trying to derail the International Criminal Court’s investigation into Kenya’s post-election violence.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights said that William Ruto should be investigated for allegedly persuading three people in a witness protection program to recant statements they made against him.

The rights group said in a 2008 report that Ruto was involved in the 2007-2008 violence that killed more than 1 000 people.

Ruto claims the group bribed witnesses to implicate him. Ruto visited the ICC in the Netherlands last week in an attempt clear his name.

The ICC is expected to issue indictments in the coming weeks.—Sapa-AP
