Bafana prodigy off to Holland

Only days after his 20th birthday, Bafana Bafana prodigy and Ajax Cape Town midfielder Thulani Serero will travel to Holland this weekend to link up with Ajax’s parent club in Amsterdam.

It will be in the nature of a week-long reconnaissance trip in which the respective parties will iron out formalities.

Serero will not be missing any of Ajax Cape Town’s Premier League matches in the intense four-team battle for the PSL’s most prestigious title.

Amiable Ajax Cape Town coach Foppe de Haan, a long-time official on Ajax Amsterdam’s technical staff, said he has “no doubt” that Serero has the ability to secure a contract with the famous Holland club, and that he will prove highly successful while venturing into the competitive European soccer cauldron.

Serero, who has already been earmarked for Bafana stardom by national coach Pitso Mosimane, was plucked into prominence by Cape Town’s Ajax.

He was born in Soweto where the big three clubs, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows, allowed the talented attacking midfielder to slip from their grasp.

Travelling to Holland with Serero is Ajax Cape Town central defender Clayton Daniels, who has also aroused the interest of Ajax Amsterdam.

Daniels will also return to South Africa in time for the Premier League game against AmaZulu in a week’s time — Sapa
