Johannesburg's alternative dance festival, New Dance, kicks off this weekend.

Johannesburg’s alternative dance festival, New Dance, kicks off this weekend with a triple bill concentrating on the inner workings of the human psyche, the latest hot subject for dancers.

Bailey Snyman’s To Be Continued deals with perceptions of the past and is danced by students from the Tshwane University of Technology.

Fana Tshabalala is one of the country’s best contemporary dancers, enigmatic and powerful. His solo performance, titled Une Rupture, deals with perceptions of reality, and Ivan Teme’s Unknown Equation deals with the body in space.

The Dance Factory, President Street, Newtown, on September 6 and 7 at 7.30pm. The festival continues until September 18. Visit www.artslink.co.za/arts.
