Poetry hits the high street this weekend when the Wits Writing Centre and the Jozi Spoken Word initiative present the first Melville Poetry Festival.

Poetry hits the high street this weekend when the Wits Writing Centre and the Jozi Spoken Word initiative present the first Melville Poetry Festival in and around 7th Street on Friday and Saturday.

At the Koffie Huis on October 14, join a one-day workshop on writing and performing poetry.

Facilitators include Keorapetse Kgositsile, Allan Kolski Horwitz, Robert Berold, Angifi Dladla, Pamela Nichols and Renos Nicos Spanoudes. The main festival on October 15 starts after the rugby and includes book launches, exhibitions, panel discussions, poetry readings, dance, praise-singing, theatre projection, “slam” and music. More than 50 poets will participate.
