Jo'burg music pick: October 28 2011

Sello Galane's Pula concerts at the Market Theatre have become an annual fixture.

Sello Galane’s Pula concerts at the Market Theatre have become an annual fixture.

Galane is an exponent of Free Kiba, the sound of the Pedis and Northern Ndebeles that has its genesis, according to music critic Gwen Ansell, in “social commentary, mediation and healing on a foundation of cross-rhythms and call-and-response vocals”.

This year the concert will reference the plight of the people of Somalia, perhaps the only country in the world that has not had a government for more than two decades. The concert will also pay tribute to various departed musicians. Books, CDs and DVDs are on sale.

Market Theatre, Bree Street, Newtown, on October 28 and 29 at 8pm. Bookings at Computicket or phone 072 206 5218.
