Jo'burg literary pick: January 13 2012

From January 18 until Die Boekehuis closes its doors on January 28, it will be holding a mammoth sale.

In mid-December, the Mail & Guardian ran several stories about the closure of Johannesburg’s quaint independent bookstore, Die Boekehuis.

In its 12 years of existence, it has been the venue for many stimulating discussions, the launchpad of many local works of both fiction and non-fiction and the coffeehouse of choice for readers whose needs were above the mundane.

In summing up the shop’s contribution, M&G writer Percy Zvomuya called it a “lekgotla for the city’s intellectuals”. From January 18 until Die Boekehuis closes its doors on January 28, it will be holding a mammoth sale, with some goods being reduced by 60%.

Die Boekehuis, corner Lothbury Road and Fawley Avenue, Auckland Park. Tel: 011 482 3609.
