Jo'burg music pick: January 13 2012

You will not get any more eclectic than the monthly Reform Soundsystem.

You will not get any more eclectic than the monthly Reform Soundsystem.

In their sets, veteran DJs Charles Leonard and Marc Latilla play music from the 1950s to the latest from 2012, including soul, rare groove, funk, pre- and post-punk, township jive, reggae, disco, girl groups, Springbok radio hits, new wave, Nigeria 1970s funk, jazz, indie, dub, electro, dubstep and global bass.

The Reform DJs love to surprise, so expect anything—Dolly Parton, John Coltrane, Fela Kuti, Brenda Fassie, Lee “Scratch” Perry, De La Soul or the latest bass sounds from around the world. They do not take themselves seriously, so it is eclectic, but you can dance to it.

Kitchener’s Carvery, corner of De Beer and Juta streets, Braamfontein, on December 14 from 9pm to 4am. January-friendly R20 cover charge.
