Request for Proposals for an Operating Partner with Communities in a Fish Processing Initiative

Interested parties are invited to submit request for proposals (RFP) for an operating partner with fishing community stakeholders for the operation of the Bluefin Fish Processing Factory.

In addition to the minimum requirements listed below, a suitable operating partner will display extensive fish processing technical expertise, business management skills and contribute towards increased throughput through its fishing quotas, access to capital and development, transformation and empowerment of the local fishing industry. A successful black economic empowerment fishing company will be preferred.

Interested fishing companies are expected to meet and demonstrate the following minimum criteria: • Willingness to work with the fishing communities as co-owners • BEE ratings, commitment to transformation of the industry and openness to further empowerment requirements • Possession of fishing quotas of which a reasonable portion will be processed and marketed through Bluefin • Share IDC’s development goals and desire to meaningfully transform the local fishing industry through skills transfer, access to funding and markets • Successful vertically integrated fish processing business with access to both domestic and international markets that Bluefin will be able to tap into.

Short-listed RFPs will be contacted for detailed presentations.

The closing date for the above RFP will be Monday, 20 August 2012 at 12:00 noon. No late responses will be considered.
