Karabus To Get Passport On Weekend

Michael Bagraim said the delay was because Karabus was listed as a "fugitive of justice" on the United Arab Emirates database.

Karabus's son Michael reportedly said on Wednesday that his father received documents after a five-hour wait at the court, but was told they were incorrect when he got to the prison to collect the passport.

"The correct forms were located and handed in. The database now needs to be updated," Bagraim said.

He said Karabus might be able to collect his passport on Sunday.

The 78-year-old paediatric oncologist has been detained in the UAE since August 18, after being sentenced in absentia for the death of a Yemeni girl he treated for leukaemia in 2002.

He was acquitted on March 21, but was not allowed to leave the country pending an appeal.

On April 24, the UAE lost the appeal. The appeal judge found him not guilty on all charges. – Sapa
