Submissions are open for the sixth South African Literary Awards (Sala), which for the first time include non-fiction authors.

The Mail & Guardian has again proved its worth as South Africa’s top newspaper by scooping all the nominations in the investigative journalism category of the Mondi Newspaper Awards 2003. The nominations were announced on Tuesday.

The press ombudsman has thrown out Aids denialist Anthony Brink's complaint against the Mail & Guardian alleging that the newspaper had implied he was mentally ill. Brink is the policy adviser at the Dr Rath Foundation and a former member of President Thabo Mbeki's advisory panel on HIV/Aids.
