Dept: Outstanding Limpopo textbooks delivered

Following a court order the department of basic education has said that all outstanding textbooks in Limpopo had been delivered to schools.

All outstanding textbooks had been delivered to schools in the Limpopo province, the department of basic education said.

"As of Thursday, all outstanding learning and teaching support materials have been delivered to schools in the Limpopo province," the department said in a statement on Friday.

"We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that everything is indeed fine. The call centre will remain operational and some delivery companies will be retained for any emergency that may arise."

Subject guides, developed by curriculum advisors, had also been provided to schools as part of a catch-up plan.

"Schools that had not covered term one and/or term two subject content would then infuse the content in the guides into their day to day teaching," it said.

A monitoring tool and schedule had also been specifically developed for the grade 10 learners.

On October 4, the High Court in Pretoria had granted a third court order compelling the national and Limpopo education departments to urgently deliver textbooks to the province's schools.

Judge Jody Kollapen granted an order as these departments had failed to deliver all textbooks by specified deadlines and failed to devise a catch-up plan for children and teachers as set out in the court order.

Kollapen ordered the departments to complete all outstanding textbook deliveries for 2012 for Grades one, two, three, and 10 by October 12.  – Sapa.
