End Of The Road For 'modimolle Monster', Says Lawyer

Convicted killer Johan Kotze was denied leave to appeal against his guilty verdict in the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), Beeld reported on Saturday.

Appeal judges Mohamed Navsa and Malcolm Wallis unanimously rejected the appeal.

"There is no prospect of success in the appeal and there is no other compelling circumstances that justify leave to appeal as a necessity," they were quoted as saying.

In July, the high court in Pretoria sentenced Kotze and co-accused Andries Sithole each to two life sentences for murdering Kotze's 19-year-old stepson Conrad Bonette and raping Kotze's estranged wife Ina Bonette.

Pieta Mohlake and Sello Mphaka were also sentenced to life imprisonment for gang raping Bonette.

Kotze (55) was sentenced to an additional 25 years imprisonment and the other three to an extra 18 years imprisonment for kidnapping and seriously assaulting Bonette.

The attacks on Bonette and her son happened at Kotze's house in Modimolle on January 3 2012.

End of the road
Piet Greyling, for Kotze, told Beeld
that it was the end of the road for his client who could only apply for parole for the first time when he is 80 years old.

"I see no point in handing in an application to appeal the ruling at the Constitutional Court," he was quoted as saying.

The SCA dismissed applications by Sithole, Mohlake and Mphaka for leave to appeal against their convictions.

On September 13, the high court in Pretoria, denied Kotze and his three co-accused leave to appeal against their convictions. – Sapa
