M&g Newsroom: Motsoaledi And The Movies

This week on M&G Newsroom, Amanda Strydom and Phillip de Wet look at the first 20 days of the new year and what you may have missed while on holiday.

Our big story for the week is Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi calling drug companies "satanic" for attempting to combat South Africa's new plan to make drugs cheaper.

The Médecins Sans Frontières's Julia Hill will be speaking to us about the document released this week, which reveals how multinational pharmaceutical companies aim to convince the South African government to strengthen patent protection for crucial drugs.

Alongside some new and not so new songs, we'll also be speaking to arts editor Zodwa Kumalo-Valentine about awards season – which films to look out for, which to skip and what the favourites are for the Academy awards.

The Weekly Choon and what big news to look out for in the next few days wraps up the show.
