When the Community Arts Project finally closed its doors in 2008, after 30 years of providing arts training and facilities to Cape Town’s marginalised and oppressed communities, there was scant outcry from either the public or the city’s commercial art scene. Now, a new exhibition and book seeks to remind us of the organisation’s vibrant creative history and the large gap its closing left on the local cultural scene. Curated and hosted by the Centre for Humanities Research at the University of the Western Cape, the CAP Exhibition, Uncontained: opening the CAP Archive, features prints selected from the over 4 000 works that comprise the CAP collection.
