Paranoia tormented him in later life. Gödel was convinced someone was trying to poison him and only ate food that his wife prepared for him. When she fell ill and could not cook for him, Gödel starved to death. He went to his grave weighing a mere 35kg. He still lives in one of the many profoundly enigmatic portraits that make up Lanel van Vuuren’s haunting photographic exhibition In Absentia.
