Music: Songs of Migration

Cape Town

With its roots in the propulsive harmonies and impassioned choo-choo chants of Hugh Masekela's legendary protest classic, Stimela (Coal Train), Songs of Migration is a musical tribute to the migrant labourers who built South Africa.

Since its debut two years ago, the production, created by Masekela and director James Ngcobo, has toured the world to critical acclaim. Now it returns to Cape Town for a second season. The wit, grief and stories of passage are told by the dynamic voices of Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo and Joel Zuma.
