Few musicians have as much experience at ringing in the new year as Hugh Masekela.
At 73, he has celebrated in party capitals such as London and New York. His New Year’s Eve performance on the slopes of Table Mountain in 1990, shortly after his return from exile, remains the stuff of legend. More than two decades later the iconic trumpeter and vocalist is back in Cape Town to bid farewell to a year in which he toured the world and launched his own record label, House of Masekela. Funky Afro-pop fusionists Hot Water add the support.
