Soccer: Africa's finest

Johannesburg

The African Cup of Nations kicks off with Bafana Bafana facing Cape Verde at the National Stadium, formerly known as Soccer City.

It promises three weeks of nail-biting football and the opportunity to see the continent’s greatest stars in action, among them African player of the year, Côte d’Ivoire and Manchester City’s Yaya Touré, alongside his brother Kolo, Didier Drogba, Ghana’s striker Asamoah Gyan, and Togo and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor. Favourites are Côte d’Ivoire and everyone’s darling, Ghana — “We are all Ghanaian” was the rallying cry of World Cup 2010.
