Remembering the legendary Abdullah 'Mr Wembley' Gangraker
Cape Town businessman Abdullah Gangraker, fondly known as “Mr Wembley”, died on Sunday at the age of 72.
Abdullah Gangraker was the chief executive of the successful Wembley Group of Companies in Cape Town, founded by his father in 1910 after leaving Morba, India as a young boy. From humble beginnings Gangraker headed successful business that grew from a green-grocer into a butchery, a bakery, a travel agent and the Wembley Roadhouse, a landmark and tourist attraction on the Cape Flats. He is survived by his wife, son and five daughters.
