Democratic Alliance calls for Rajbansi’s head

The Democratic Alliance on Friday called on Minority Front leader Amichand Rajbansi to be expelled from the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Friday called on Minority Front leader Amichand Rajbansi to be expelled from the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

This was after the party accused him of racism.

“The DA demands an apology from Rajbansi. His racist remarks including the reference to honourable member and DA provincial leader, Sizwe Mchunu, as a ‘darkie’ are unbecoming and decidedly unparliamentary.

“His actions are that of a desperate man who considers the Democratic Alliance a massive political threat as we head towards local government elections,” said Johann Krog, DA member the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

Krog said Rajbansi should be expelled until after the local government elections. He called for harsh disciplinary action against Rajbansi for his alleged racist comment.

“The fact that the Minority Front was not represented at any of the finance budget hearings, held over the past two weeks, again highlights the party’s contempt for the legislature.

“The DA calls for Rajbansi’s expulsion from the legislature until after May 18.”

Rajbansi said he was quoted out of context by the DA.

“The DA in KZN during election time has a tendency of spitting venom about others — I was quoted out of context by the DA,” said Rajbansi. — Sapa
