Jo’burg art pick: February 24 2012

Jo’burg’s trolley-pushers and junk recyclers have inspired many artists, including urban geographer Ismail Farouk and “plastic painter” Mbongeni Buthelezi.

Now an exhibition, Transference, “explores a new artistic interpretation of the cosmopolitan trade that has become a new phenomenon of business in the inner city”. The work of Vumelani Sibeko and Senzo Shabangu includes printmaking, painting and sculpture. The exhibition is curated by Portia Malatji.

Johannesburg Art Gallery Project Space, February 26 to April 22.
