Cpt International Jazz Festival Announces Line Up

The first lady of neo soul, Erykah Badu was on Tuesday announced as one of the leading acts performing at the 15th Cape Town International Jazz Festival. 

The festival takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, March 28 – 29 2014. 

The jazz festival announced the first set of line-up acts for the weekend event, which includes South Africa's Jonas Gwangwa; The Soil; Jimmy Nevis; Shane Cooper; Reason; The Muffinz; Ological Studies; Soul Housing Project; Dr Philip Tabane and Malombo. 

International acts include Australia's Haitus Kaiyote, Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet, The Foreign Exchange, Kenny Garrett Quintet, Chris Dave and the Drumhedz, Rakesh Chaurasia & Friends, Snarky Puppy, Jaco Maria and Carmen Lundy.

"We've listened to our fans and we think we've got an even more exciting – and crowd-pleasing – festival. After all, it is called Africa's grandest gathering," said event organiser espAfrika's chief executive Rashid Lombard. 

Forty-two-year-old Badu's début album Baduizm was released in 1997 and debuted at number two on the Billboard charts.

Baduizm eventually went triple platinum and the first single off the album, On & On, won best female R&B vocal performance at the 1998 Grammy awards. Baduizm also won best R&B album.
