Road rage, attack case against Malema withdrawn

Road Rage, Attack Case Against Malema Withdrawn

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema was accused of assault after a road rage incident in Polokwane on Tuesday, according to website Africa Review on Wednesday. The former ANC Youth League leader is said to have attacked a man who complained about the driving style of Malema's S-Class Mercedes Benz, and to have damaged the man's vehicle.

The motorist initially opened a case of assault and damage to property, but has since withdrawn the case, Eye Witness News reported on Thursday.

Bernard Redelinghuys, 22, on Wednesday accused Malema and another man of assaulting him during the apparent road rage confrontation in Polokwane.

On Wednesday, Limpopo police said they were investigating a common assault case against Malema and three other men. At the time  police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi mentioned that based on the claimant's statement, "Three guys came out of Malema's car, grabbed him, and then he claims that Mr Malema joined the other three guys, slapped him in the face, and also damaged his vehicle."

The Economic Freedom Fighters dismissed these reports. However Mulaudzi was quoted saying: "It's not true that he was never investigated. The case was being investigated and then the complainant decided to withdraw the matter."
