USAID and the Southern African Development Community on Tuesday signed a $18,4-million agreement aimed at enhancing regional market integration, agriculture, natural resource management and the promotion of democracy in the region. Speaking at a media briefing after the signing, SADC Executive Secretary Prega Ramsamy and regional official of the United States Agency for International Development, Edward Spriggs, said $8,85-million is to be used for regional market integration. The regional member states of SADC have agreed to a programme of establishing a free trade area within eight years, which is to be launched in September.
