The future is bright for African football

Senegal coach Bruno Metsu believes Africa’s top football teams have a bright future and will soon be ready to take on the world on a regular basis.

”African football has reached a very high level, and Africa has a bright future in the sport,” Metsu said as his team prepared for their crucial Group A game against Uruguay on Tuesday.

Metsu’s Senegal team have been one of the revelations of the tournament so far, stunning champions France 1-0 in the opening match and scoring a superb flowing goal in the 1-1 draw against Denmark last week.

But while pleased with the performance of his own side, Metsu believes the entire African contingent has performed strongly.

”During the World Cup, the African teams have been a credit to their shirts and their country. Nigeria played some great football even if the results didn’t necessarily follow,” Metsu said.

”And even though Cameroon are in a difficult position, they have showed the beautiful side of African football,” Metsu said.

Nigeria have been eliminated from the tournament, while Cameroon must win against three-time champions Germany on Tuesday in Group E to have a realistic chance of going through.
