Mining magnate Roger Kebble has vowed to ”set the record straight” after reports that the taxman had seized a number of his assets, the Argus reported on Monday.
According to its website, the father of recently assassinated mining tycoon Brett Kebble was tight-lipped about the reported raid.
Kebble was quoted as saying: ”I will set the record straight, but not through the Cape Argus.”
Officials from the sheriff’s offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg reportedly attached a 47-foot yacht, several luxury vehicles, three of his homes — one in Bantry Bay, another in Milnerton and the third in Houghton, Johannesburg — furniture and other assets.
The raid on Tuesday, following a judgement in favour of the South African Revenue Service (Sars) by the Johannesburg High Court in November, was to reclaim a reported R41-million in outstanding tax payments and interest of R21-million.
Kebble reportedly failed to declare his full income by not providing Sars with essential documents since 1996. — Sapa
