The semi-regular I Heart Durban parties have become a cult institution in the city, eschewing the predigested corporate dreck lapped up by the masses in favour of an exemplary blend of fresh and original live, electronic and DJ talent.
It allows those with a passing familiarity with the concept of taste to go out and have a good time without frantically searching for the nearest razor blade. The event this weekend is a case in point: South Africa’s avant-rock act Blk Jks bring their prowling, progressive-punk menace to the stage with Durban act Strage in support. Electronica artistes Renaud 5, Scissorhands, Lo-Boob Oscillator, Nev The Butcher and Man or Machine will fill the rest of the night with glitchy, trippy, dubsteppy fun.
Unit 11, 10 Oldham Street, off Stamford Hill Road, Saturday November 12 at 8pm. Entrance R50.
