The Technology Innovation Agency


The Technology Innovation Agency (TIA or the Agency), an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, has a mandate to enable and support technological innovation across all sectors of the economy in order to achieve socio-economic benefits for South Africa and enhance its global competitiveness.

The Agency is a public entity with the aim of enhancing the country’s capacity to translate
a greater proportion of local research and development from higher education institutions,
science councils, public entities and private research institutions into commercial technology

In the quest to deliver on its mandate, the Agency invites panel of consultants with suitable experience and qualifications in technology innovation in the following TIA Sectors: Agriculture, Industrial Biotech, Mining, Advanced Manufacturing, Health, Energy and ICT to register as suppliers. The consultant should have understanding of the National Biotechnology Strategy, dynamics of technology innovation in supporting socioeconomic development, other technology innovation programmes or initiatives undertaken across the country.
The commercialisation consultants should demonstrate an ability to review investment framework policies, understand commercialisation of innovative technologies locally and internationally. Whilst the requirements for an Intellectual Property (IP) consultant includes understanding of the Intellectual Property Rights Act of South Africa; IP positioning and status across South Africa and other countries and; be well versed with IP residing within different institutions such as Science Councils and High Education Institutions.

A database of consultants will be developed to enable TIA as and when required, to select one or more consultants for tasks commissioned by the Agency. Registering does not imply that the Agency has a legal obligation to effect an appointment.


Interested consultants can apply to be registered on the consultancy database, by downloading the ‘Supplier Registration Form” obtainable from and completing all required sections.
The following additional documentation is required; (1) A valid tax clearance certificate; (2) CV’s of employees as required in Section 9 of the supplier registration form (3) Copies of identity documents.

The Agency reserves the right not to accept :
1. Incomplete registration forms and those without the required supporting documents
2. Applications that are not completed on the TIA Supplier Registration Form
3. Applications where the applicant(s) are not South African citizens or do not have a legally registered South African entity
