Mmusi Maimane's Twitter campaign appealed to his supporters

His slogan “Believe in Tomorrow” over the past weeks drove Mmusi Maimane's campaign for votes to be the new Democratic Alliance leader. Speaking to the M&G last week, Maimane said they were using every opportunity and tool at their disposal to make sure he came out victorious on Sunday. Since the announcement of his candidacy to run for DA leader, Maimane has had a strong social media presence and used Twitter as one of his campaign tools. The social media platform garnered a lot of attention from his supporters: As expected, the activity around Maimane's Twitter campaign, resulted in a trend. Social media users were quick to respond with a variety of memes and cartoons: The Port Elizabeth based newspaper The Herald ran with this cartoon. Hopefully Maimane will be better at Toy-Toying than his predecessor. Another Maimane supporter tweeted this pic of the victor.
