The South African German Energy Programme (SAGEN), forms part of focal area energy and climate of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in South Africa supporting South African institutions in improving framework conditions and capacities for enhanced investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency. SAGEN’s main cooperating partners are the Department of Energy (DoE), Eskom and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

The envisaged study aims at supporting to SALGA to develop and implement the councilor induction programme on energy and electricity. This induction programme aims to build the capacity of the newly elected councillors to appropriately play an oversight role in the electricity and energy sectors. The appointed service provider will update the existing training programme and develop training materials to ensure interactive and impactful induction sessions.
