Third Tshwane city councillor shot

A third Tshwane city councillor has been shot, media reports said on Thursday. William Mahlangu (42) a member of the Tshwane mayoral committee responsible for finance, was the latest victim. He was returning from a committee meeting at about 9pm when he was shot in the right arm. The bullet lodged in his chest.

South Africa’s sassy young R&B enigma Tsakani "TK" Mhinga was found dead in a hotel room in Bryanston, north of Johannesburg on Monday. The grim discovery was made by a staff member of the City Lodge in Bryanston. There was "no evidence of a struggle", said Captain Schalk Bornman of the South African Police Service.

No love lost at Hefer commission

It went long into the night. First they met on the lush lawn outside City Lodge hotel in Bloemfontein. Mo Shaik, with his Sherlock Holmes-type pipe; Mac Maharaj, with his briefcase; and Yunus Shaik, with his cellphone. But when it came to the crunch, Mo Shaik and Mac Maharaj backed out of testifying, opting to be given time to obtain documents before they could give evidence.

Tropical storm Gamma kills six in Honduras

Tropical Storm Gamma deluged the Caribbean coast of Central America on Saturday, killing at least six people — three in flooding in Honduras and three in the crash of a small plane belonging to a lodge owned by United States filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. On Saturday night, Gamma was moving at 10kph and was located about 400km east of the Belizean capital, Belize City.
