Barclays bank has been fined £2.45-million for "serious weaknesses" in systems and controls that led to inaccurate reporting of transactions.
Sasol’s Inzalo Black Public Invitations have been extended to July 9, the chemical and fuels company said on Wednesday.

Standard Bank will raise its transaction fees by an average of 4,65% in 2008, the bank said on Monday. Increasing competitive pressure, rising interest rates and inflation were some of the reasons for the increase, said the bank’s CEO for personal and business banking, Sim Tshabalala.

In an effort to curb internet banking fraud, users have been urged to adopt measures to safeguard transactions. Absa on Tuesday said that while there are many ways internet banking users can prevent fraud, many users are often unaware of them.
South African gold miner AngloGold Ashanti on Monday revealed details of its empowerment transaction with the National Union of Mineworkers, Solidarity, union Usas and Izingwe Holdings. The three unions and the company have agreed upon the architecture of an employee share ownership plan (Esop), to be called the Bokamoso Esop, or "harvesting for the future".

South African brewing giant SABMiller, which is listed in London and on the JSE, announced on Tuesday that it has completed the acquisition of the Foster’s business and brand in India for $120-million. SABMiller India will extend Foster’s Lager through its national network of breweries.
SABMiller on Monday announced the completion of the acquisition of the Sparks and Steel Reserve brands from United States contract brewing partner McKenzie River Corporation. Following approval from US antitrust authorities, SABMiller assumes ownership of the brands and related trademarks for the caffeinated malt beverage franchise Sparks and leading high-gravity lager Steel Reserve.
Pulp and paper group Sappi has announced that as part of its ongoing support of the South African government’s broad-based black economic empowerment (BEE) objectives, 25% of its South African plantation land portfolio would be sold to an empowerment consortium.

The United States online auction service eBay on Friday scrapped all sellers’ transaction fees in China, in an effort to compete with local competitors offering free services, including Yahoo-invested Alibaba.com. The move means that sellers won’t get paid until the buyers receive and are satisfied with the products, it said.

South African resources companies Anglo American and Kumba Resources on Thursday announced a major black economic empowerment (BEE) transaction that will result in the establishment of the country’s largest black-owned, -controlled and -managed company with an enterprise value of about R16-billion.
