THE 20th anniversary of the hanging of African National Congress cadre Solomon Mahlangu was marked with a commemoration at the Mamelodi West community hall outside Pretoria on Tuesday. Mahlangu was caught and sentenced to death for his role in the armed struggle after returning to South Africa from exile in Tanzania. He was hanged in Pretoria on April 6, 1979, the anniversary of the landing of Jan van Riebeeck in the Cape.
