What was Zuma doing in Libya?

Former Deputy President Jacob Zuma visited Libya just 12 days after being arrested on a rape charge, The Sunday Times newspaper reported.

The report said Zuma was in Tripoli for five days where he met with Libyan President Moammar Gaddafi.

It said there was no clarity on whether the trip was of a personal nature or if it was linked to the fundraising campaign of the Friends of Jacob Zuma Trust.

Besides Zuma’s rape trial, which stems from allegations that he raped a family friend at his home last year, he also faces fraud and corruption charges in Pietermaritzburg in July.

The trust indicated that it needed R12-million to put together a legal defence for him in that trial.

It was believed Zuma and Gaddafi developed a good relationship during his involvement, as deputy president, in African peace processes.
