Three arrests after albino man’s stoning death

Three men arrested for allegedly stoning an albino man to death will appear in the Mapulana Magistrate’s Court near Bushbuckridge on Friday, Mpumalanga police said.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said on Wednesday that Katlego Mawelele (30), Thabiso Ngomane (36) and Booysen Dibakwane (19) were arrested for the murder of Basi Mpanza at the weekend in Mateteng.

He said a group of about 50 people attacked Mpanza at his home on Friday night, accusing him of painting himself black with shoe polish and commit a number of crimes ranging from housebreaking, theft and rape.

The group stoned him to death after forcing his friend to call him.

The three suspects appeared in court on Monday and their case was postponed to Friday for a bail application.

Khoabane said members of the public with information that might lead to the arrest of more people should conduct the investigating officer, Captain Tylors Nkuna, on Tel: 082 469 1298. — Sapa
