Five injured in Airbus test accident

Five people were injured when an Airbus A340-600 carrying out a ground engine test in France slammed into a wall, the company said on Friday in a press statement.

Of those injured, three remained in hospital on Friday. Nine people were taken to hospital to be examined after the accident, which took place late on Thursday.

The accident occurred on property belonging to Airbus, near the southern French city of Toulouse.

The aircraft was carrying out engine run-ups, which take place while the plane is stationary. However, the craft suddenly began to move and struck the wall.

The aircraft, which was totally destroyed, was to have been delivered to Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, in the coming days. — Sapa-dpa
