Cops on the lookout for hit-and-run driver

Heidelberg police are searching for the driver of a yellow Toyota Cressida that was involved in an accident in which one person died, Ekurhuleni police said on Sunday.

The accident occurred on Friday at the intersection of the R103 and Kliprivier Road.

”We are looking for the driver of the Toyota. We’ve added two other charges to the culpable homicide charge he’s facing,” said police spokesperson Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate.

Tshilate said driver would face additional charges of failure to report the accident and failure to assist at an accident scene.

The Toyota Cressida — bearing the number plate CJM 710 GP — collided with a white Hyundai three-tonne truck, leaving the driver of the truck dead.

Five passengers in the truck sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

Tshilate said the driver of the Toyota was believed to be staying in Katlehong.
