About 170 accidents in Gauteng since Friday

About 170 accidents occurred in Gauteng since late Friday afternoon, Netcare 911 said on Sunday.

In one incident, a three-year-old boy died and two other children were in critically injured following a head-on collision on the N12 near Xavier Road off-ramp on Saturday.

”One of the cars crossed over the middle divide and collided head-on with another vehicle,” said spokesperson Nick Dollman.

The boy was declared dead at the scene, two others were taken to hospital in a critical condition. Two adults were seriously injured and two were slightly injured during the crash. They were also taken to hospital.

Dollman said traffic towards Alberton was severely affected by the partial closure of the road, due to the clearing of an oil spill.

In a separate incident on Saturday, an elderly man died and three other people sustained severe injuries when three cars collided on the N1 in Randburg, Johannesburg.

A car travelling towards the Malibongwe off-ramp crashed with another car on its side before crossing over the middle island, colliding head-on with a second car, said Dollman.

An elderly man died at the scene and three other people sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. – Sapa
