Five arrested for murder of former Banyana player

Five men have been arrested in connection with the murder and rape of a former Banyana Banyana player, East Rand police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Johannes Ramphora said the body of Eudy Simelane was found in a field next to the Kwa Thema hostel.

She had been raped and stabbed to death on Monday morning.

Police arrested two men, one aged 18 and the other 23, on Tuesday. On Monday, they arrested three men, all in their early twenties.

A knife used during the murder was also found in the possession of the men.

Police are still trying to establish the motive for the murder.

The five will appear in the Kwa Thema Magistrate’s court on Wednesday on charges of murder and rape, police said.—Sapa
