Scotland ended a run of seven successive defeats against Argentina by winning Saturday’s second Test 26-14 in Pumas’ lock Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe’s final international.
Lobbe was given a standing ovation by the 40 000 crowd at the Velez Sarsfield stadium after a career in which he played 65 matches and scored six tries.
Lobbe took part in three World Cups, including last year in France when his side finished third.
Scotland, beaten 21-15 in the first test match one week ago, raced to a 16-0 halftime lead on the way to their first win over Argentina since 1990.
Winger Chris Paterson, making a record 88th appearance for Scotland, converted two penalties to put the visitors 6-0 ahead after 20 minutes.
Ross Ford added a try two minutes later which Paterson converted before adding another penalty to round off the half.
Paterson extended Scotland’s lead with another penalty shortly after the break before Lobbe powered over to score Argentina’s first try of the match, converted by Federico Todeschini.
Scotland restored their lead when substitute Dan Parks intercepted a pass, sprinted half the pitch and then lobbed the ball forward to Graeme Morrison, who scored under the posts.
Paterson converted to take his tally to 16 points.
Argentina scored a late consolation with a Horacio Agulla try which was converted by Todeschini. – Reuters
