Clark holds slim lead at Australian Masters

South African Tim Clark fired a solid two-under-par 70 to hold a one-shot lead after the Australian Masters second round at Huntingdale on Friday.

Clark finished at seven under, one ahead of unheralded Australians Anthony Summers and Michael Sim, the former world amateur number one.

Clark failed to take advantage of the benign early conditions and will have to fight hard to hold off a chasing pack that includes experienced Australians Robert Allenby and Rod Pampling, among a group of seven players lying two shots behind.

Colourful American John Daly finished at five over and missed the cut, along with Australians Craig Parry and Stuart Appleby, who both finished four over.

Daly, the twice former major champion who is also playing in next week’s PGA at Coolum, failed to come to terms with the greens.

”I had a couple of eagle opportunities and hit horrible putts, three-putted one of them,” Daly said.

”When you don’t putt good, it’s not much fun, it’s tough. I had opportunities today and they just didn’t fall.” — Reuters
